― シスター長谷川和子が4月から福島に来られました。しばらくはカリタス南相馬の色々な活動に参加しています。Sister Kazuko 　Hasegawa came to Fukushima in April. She has been participating in various activities of Caritas Minami Soma for a while.

― サムライフェス　Samurai Festival
　野馬追祭場で毎年行われる高校生が企画運営しているお祭りで、聖心女子大学の学生がボランティアとして活躍しています。今年も8人が参加して子供の遊び場の手伝いをしました。
　Students from the University of the Sacred Heart are participating as volunteers at the annual festival organised by local high school students at the Nomaoi Festival Centre. This year, eight students took part and helped out at the children's playground.

― 野馬追 Nomaoi Festival (Horse Show)
　 1000年以上の歴史のある催物。原町にある野馬追祭場で騎馬武者たちによる甲冑競馬、神旗争奪戦などがあります。国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定されています。例年は7月最後の金曜日から土曜日の三日間ですが、暑さのため今年は5月25日から27日になりました。野馬追1日目は宵乗り競馬のために300騎くらいが原町の雲雀が原祭場に集まりました。

　An event with a history of more than 1,000 years. It includes an armoured horse race by mounted warriors and a battle for the sacred flag at the Nomaoi Festival site in Haramachi. It has been designated a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset. The festival is usually held over three days from the last Saturday to Monday of July, but due to the heat it was moved to 25-27 May this year.

― さゆり幼稚園のさつまいもの苗植え Sweet potato planting at Sayuri Kindergarten
　今年も南町の聖心会の庭（カリタス畑）にさゆり幼稚園の子どもたちがさつまいもの苗を30本ほど植えました。いつもお世話になっている農家の山本さんご夫妻が土壌作りに愛を込めて用意してくださいました。土を何度も掘り起こし、畝を作り、肥料を入れて、その上に土をのせ、黒いビニール・マルチングをかけ、苗を植える小さな穴を掘り、、、、と色々な準備があります。あらためて農家の方達の心を込めて野菜を育ててくださる姿に感動しました。これからは時々子どもたちが水をやりにきます。秋の収穫を楽しみにしています。

　This year again, the children of Sayuri Kindergarten planted about 30 sweet potato seedlings in the garden (Caritas Field) of the Sacred Heart in Minami-machi. Mr. and Mrs. Yamamoto, farmers who have always been a great help to us, prepared the soil with love. There is a lot of preparation involved: digging up the soil many times, making ridges, adding fertiliser, putting soil on top of it, covering it with black plastic mulch, digging small holes to plant the seedlings, …. Once again, I was impressed by the farmers' care and attention to detail in growing vegetables. From now on, the children will come to water the plants from time to time. We are looking forward to the autumn harvest.

― カリタス憩いカフェオープン Caritas Relaxing Café opens
　カリタス南相馬の場所を活用してご近所の高齢の方たちをお呼びして毎月一回、お茶を飲みながらおしゃべりの場を提供することになりました。原町カトリック教会の会長さん、副会長さんが主催です。さゆり幼稚園の先生をしていた副会長さんがご近所の方たちとのつながりがあり、第一回目は4名のさゆり幼稚園のもと保護者が集まりました。懐かしい昔話を楽しまれました。
　We have decided to use Caritas Minamisoma's large room to invite elderly neighbours and provide them with a place to chat over a cup of tea once a month. This is being organised by the president and vice-president of Haramachi Catholic Church. The vice-president, who was a teacher at Sayuri Kindergarten, had connections with the neighbourhood. Four former parents of Sayuri Kindergarten gathered at the first meeting. They enjoyed sharing stories of the old days.

― おれたちの伝承館 Oretachi (our) lore museum
　小高にある「おれたちの伝承館」に今年は援助マリア修道会のシスターが一人が関わってくださるようになり、新しい情報が日々入ってくるようになりました。日本の各地から大学の教授、大学生、高校生、芸術関係の方々、一般の方とさまざまなグループの方が来られて2011年３月の出来事以来の福島の歩みを絵画、詩、彫刻などを通して心に留めておられます。外国からの方も来られています。原発関係の講演会も企画されています。

　This year, one of the Sisters of Marie Auxiliatrice became involved in the Oretachi no Denshokan in Odaka, and new information is coming in daily. Various groups of people have come from all over Japan, including university professors, university students, high school students, people in the arts, and others, to keep in mind the progress of Fukushima since the events of March 2011 through paintings, poetry, sculptures and so on. People from abroad have also come. Lectures on nuclear power are also planned.

― カリタス南相馬ボランティア活動再開 Caritas Minamisoma Volunteer activities restarted
　コロナ禍のために以前のようなボランティア活動をしばらく中止していましたが、今年から再開することになりました。カリタス南相馬のホームページ、フェイスブックに詳細をのせていますので、ご覧ください。
　Due to the Corona disaster, volunteer activities as before have been suspended for a while, but will be resumed this year. Please see Caritas Minamisoma's website and Facebook page for more details.

― ウクライナの子供達との交流 Exchange with Ukrainian children
　小高駅前の双葉屋旅館の小林友子さんは福島第一原発の事故以来、ウクライナ・チェルノブイリとの交流を続けていますが、今回、ウクライナ西部のジトーミルの小学校の児童、高等学校の生徒とのズームでの交流が企画され、つながりました。ウクライナ語から英語、さらに日本語へ、また、日本語から英語、ウクライナ語へとの交流のため通訳として少しお手伝いができました。貴重な機会をいただき、感謝です。
　小林友子さんが何度か訪問していた小学校は今回の戦争で完全に破壊されました。別の小学校の子どもたちでした。東部から避難している子ども、家族と共に避難してきた子ども、両親が戦争に関わっている子どもがいました。街の中に軍の施設もあり、怖い思いをしている子どもたちに楽しいプログラムを用意したり、絵を書くことで辛い思いを心に溜め込まないようにと、工夫をされています。日本の鉛筆、クレヨンが大好きだそうです。
　Ms Tomoko Kobayashi from Futabaya Ryokan in front of JR Odaka station has been continuing exchange with Chernobyl, Ukraine, since the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, and this time a zoom exchange was organised and connected with children from a primary school and students from a high school in Zhitomir, western Ukraine. I was able to help a little as an interpreter for the exchange from Ukrainian to English and then to Japanese, and from Japanese to English and Ukrainian. I am grateful for this valuable opportunity.

　The primary school that Tomoko Kobayashi had visited several times was completely destroyed in the current war. Among the children, some were from another primary school in the eastern part of the country. There were children who had been evacuated from the east, children who had been evacuated with their families, and children whose parents were involved in the war. There is a military facility in the town, and they have prepared a fun programme for the children who are afraid and scared. Using drawing, the teachers are helping and working hard for children not to keep the painful feelings in their hearts. They love Japanese pencils and crayons.
